Research in the Volunteer Administration Field

The Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration (CCVA) regularly collaborates on research initiatives with various group bringing knowledge and experience of current practitioners.  The two major projects that CCVA has been involved in include ADEVI (Assessing Diversity and Equity in Volunteer Inclusion) and TEVA (Technology Evolution in Volunteer Administration). For both projects, CCVA collaborated in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) and funded by AmeriCorps.

Together, these initiatives evaluate crucial modern challenges faced by leaders of volunteer engagement:

  • TEVA focuses on the digital and technological shifts accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic (such as remote volunteering and tech adoption).

  • ADEVI focuses on culture, identity, and accessibility, researching equity in volunteer leadership to build practical tools for diverse civic engagement.

Data from both projects—gathered through extensive surveys and focus groups with Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) professionals—serves to advance the volunteer management profession through published reports, articles, podcasts, and actionable resources.
